Communal Ground Source Heat Pump System

Loch investments approached Ecoliving to deliver a communal renewable energy heating system for their new build development at Auchentoshan Terrace, Springburn in Glasgow. The development, built to code 4, consists of 27 one and two bedroom flats which the company rents out. The cost of the heating and hot water is included in the rent tenants pay.

Ground Source Heat Pumps

Heating & Hot Water from ground source heat pumps. The heating system in this Glasgow development consists of 2 x NIBE ground source heat pumps (each with an output of 40kW) and 3 x 1000 litre cylinders. 12 boreholes, 100m deep into rock under the site deliver the required temperature difference, even in the heart of winter, to facilitate the refrigeration cycle within the heat pumps. This allows the refrigerant to evaporate and then become compressed which increases the temperature.

The hot gas heats water to usable temperatures for heating and hot water. There is a primary flow to the under floor heating system in each flat.

Impressive RHI Return on Investment

'It has been invaluable to be able to rely on Ecoliving's experience of ground source heat pump installations and we have been delighted with their expert input at each stage. The return on investment with the RHI is really impressive.' Heinz Borchardt, Project Manager
